As an alternative to the Holiday dress, I have put together three different Holiday inspired looks for the classy, edgy and chic woman that are sure to have you sleighing at all of your Holiday parties!
We all know that the Holiday season can get a little stressful between the gift-wrapping, the tree-decorating, the cooking, the cleaning, the outfit-choosing and well, the list goes on! Sadly, my wrapping skills are mediocre at best and I am certainly no Gordon Ramsay in the kitchen but don’t worry, I’ve got you covered for all things fashion!
1. Classy
This classy look is perfect for the Holidays. Not only is it stylish but the elastic waistband on the skirt leaves you plenty of room for all of that yummy food and the sweater is thick enough to cover even the most obtrusive food baby !
This off-the shoulder sweater from H&M is so warm and cozy and the red is the perfect Holiday colour. I chose to style it with a knot to add a little extra flair but you could leave it out or simply decide to tuck it in. I bought it last year and so this one is no longer available but I’ve included a similar one: https://www2.hm.com/en_ca/productpage.0662888005.html .
We tend to gravitate towards pieces that are Holiday specific but I suggest getting items like this pleaded skirt from Simons that can be worn all throughout the year to maximize wearability. It’s one of those versatile pieces that you can dress up or down, you can pair it with a turtleneck or style it with a pair of sneakers and an oversized T-shirt later on. If you are thinking of buying the skirt, I suggest getting it one size down due to the elastic waistband. I bought mine in a small and still have quite a bit of room. https://www.simons.ca/en/women-clothing/skirts/midi/pleated-midi-skirt–11318-3485?colourId=48
Hats are one of my favourite accessories and so to me, this look was not complete without the addition of my favourite black fedora. The right accessory can make even the simplest outfit classy. Would you believe that I actually ended up finding this gem in the H&M men’s section from their Coachella collection?https://www2.hm.com/en_ca/productpage.0375917001.html
2. Edgy
Whether you’ve been naughty or nice this year, this edgy Holiday look is perfect for you! As previously mentioned, I think that it’s easy to go for the dress when we think of our Holiday outfits but I wanted to challenge myself to create great Holiday looks that can be worn both in and out of the season, like these amazing red plaid pants from H&M. https://www2.hm.com/en_ca/productpage.0656719008.html
During the Holidays it’s easy to think that we have to sacrifice style for comfort but I promise that you will achieve both with these pants because although they aren’t leggings, they are made with a small percentage of Elastane so they will move with you when you are busting it out on the dance floor to your favourite Holiday jams!
Of course, this edgy outfit could not be completed without throwing on my favourite Zara faux leather jacket, a black sweater and some red shades. https://www.amazon.ca/Small-Sunglasses-Slender-Tinted-Glasses/dp/B07B7CHFJN/ref=sr_1_1?s=apparel&rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1545519127&sr=1-1&keywords=red+oval+shades+prime
3. Chic
Sometimes, when something is too good you’ve got to get two, which is exactly what happened with the H&M plaid pants (seen above in red). I don’t know what about plaid reminds me of the Holidays but contrary to the red plaid pants, these green and navy blue plaid pants are the perfect Holiday option for the chic woman who may want to celebrate the Holidays in a way that is a little less overt.
Another Holiday favourite of mine has been the bell-sleeve shirts and I love this one even more because I got it on sale for $8 at Ubran Planet https://urban-planet.com/products/0008-39075004-lettuce-hem-layered-bell-sleeve-cropped-long-sleeveI ended up loving it so much in fact, that I got it in white as well.
While we’re on the topic of sales, I got these blue velour boots for 14$ at the Zara Boxing Day Sale last year and my navy blue coat on sale fromhttps://www.evernew.ca/
Whether your style is classy, edgy or chic, I hope that I’ve helped to minimize some of your Holiday stresses in some way!
I’d love to know what you thought of these outfits down in the comments below!
